Dear Deans Mill School Families,
Welcome to the 2025 - 2026 school year! We hope your summer was filled with sunshine, smiles, and time with family and friends. We are excited to welcome back our students and staff on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
As we enter into the school year, we are excited to focus on developing “Wise Minds and Kind Hearts!” This year we will continue to implement Play Based Learning into our curricula and expand this work to other grades and content areas. Also, all students in Grades K - 5 will now have STEM class each week for the full year. Expanding our STEM programming will certainly align with our goals of providing students with more opportunities to collaborate, problem solve, and create! We’re excited for another year of learning and growth. With strong family partnerships, we know our students will continue to soar!
At Deans Mill School we believe that as a community, we can “learn, inspire, and grow together!” We remain dedicated to providing a safe and engaging learning environment for our students, families, and staff. We look forward to partnering with parents and the community throughout the school year and our PTO has planned many fun events to bring our community together. We encourage parents to stay connected through our Parent Square notifications which will be our main mode of communicating activities and events throughout the school year. Please look to Parent Square for news and updates from Deans Mill School regarding any specific changes to our school procedures for the upcoming school year.

About
Deans Mill School is a Pre-K to 5 elementary school located in Stonington, CT. DMS is an inclusive school with approximately 420 students. It is named for the mill that was originally located at the site of the present water company nearby the school. In 2019, DMS completed a major renovation and expansion to our campus.
Deans Mill School’s mission is to provide quality instruction, which will challenge students’ abilities and provide them with the knowledge and skills to participate successfully in a democracy.
We, at DMS, believe that children are our greatest resource and that we need to uphold high expectations for all. We work hard to "learn, inspire and grow together" each and every day
We hold that:
● Students must be literate and demonstrate communication, computation, and problem-solving skills;
● Knowledge is best acquired when students function in a safe, orderly, and nurturing environment;
● Students should be held in high standards, and that they learn when instruction is commensurate with their ability and presented in an orderly and purposeful manner;
● Each student’s education leads to intellectual, aesthetic, physical and social development;
● Our ultimate goal is to foster a love for learning that will enable them to become life-long learners, and self-sufficient and productive members of society.
